K2 mountain
K2, also known as Mount Godwin-Austen or Chhogori, is the second-highest mountain in the world, after Mount Everest. It is located in the Karakoram Range on the border between Pakistan and China. K2 is known for its extremely steep and challenging terrain, which has earned it the nickname "Savage Mountain."
K2 was first surveyed by a European expedition in 1856, and the first attempt to climb the mountain was made in 1902 by a British team. However, it was not until 1954 that K2 was successfully climbed, by an Italian team led by Ardito Desio. Since then, K2 has been climbed by a relatively small number of mountaineers, and it is considered one of the most difficult and dangerous mountains in the world.
The ascent of K2 involves climbing through a series of icefalls, steep ridges, and technical rock sections, as well as navigating avalanches and other hazards. The weather on K2 can also be extremely harsh, with high winds, heavy snowfall, and sudden storms. As a result, the climb requires a high level of skill, experience, and preparation. Despite these challenges, K2 remains a highly coveted peak for mountaineers, and attracts climbers from around the world.
