*Markhor Markhor (Capra falconeri) is a large wild goat species that is native to the mountainous regions of Central Asia, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Tajikistan . The name "Markhor" comes from the Persian word "Mar" meaning snake and "Khor" meaning eater, as it is known to hunt snakes. Markhors are well-known for their impressive spiral horns, which can grow up to 5 feet in length in males and are used for defense and attracting mates. They are generally solitary animals, but may gather in small herds of up to 10 individuals during the winter months.
